ALL OF THE CHILDREN IN AND AGING OUT OF FOSTER CARE DESERVE A CHANCE.
Forgotten Angels is a charity that benefits these children, many of whom have experienced neglect and abuse. We take these children in and teach them the life skills they were never given. They are given the opportunity to build their own tiny home, open a bank account, build credit, get a job, and have the care, love, and guidance they never had from their legal foster caregivers.
FORGOTTEN ANGELS
On any given day, there are over 428,000 children in foster care in the United States.
Over 20,000 will “age out”—becoming too old to stay under State care. For many, aging out occurs at the age of 18 or as soon as they graduate from high school. While some states may allow for extended foster care, many of the youths aging out, regardless of their age, struggle with transitioning to adulthood.
20% of children who age out at 18 will instantly become homeless.
25% of the children who age out will not graduate from high school.
Only 50% of those who age out will have gainful employment by the age of 24.
Less than 3% of children who age out will earn a college degree.
70% of females who age out of foster care become pregnant by the age of 21.
60% of the males who age out have been convicted of a crime.
25% of aged out foster kids suffer from PTSD.
Over 100,000 of the children in foster care are eligible for adoption.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE THAT MATTERS MOST
We are a non-profit focused on providing resources and support to the youth who are struggling to achieve housing, education, and life skills.
We provide safe and secure housing, clothing and necessities, and food to homeless, aged-out, and at-risk youth while instructing and aiding them to achieve these things for themselves.
WELLBEING
We provide on-site leadership, mentorship, and 24/7 support as well as counseling services for youth who have suffered trauma or hardship.
OPPORTUNITIES
From securing a diploma/GED and job placement assistance to financial education and credit planning, we work diligently to help our young adults navigate towards a successful adulthood.
LIFE SKILLS
We help to provide job skills training, educational advancement, and general life skill instruction (e.g., writing checks, completing applications, opening a checking account, homeowner preparation, etc.).
Confidence
Through hands-on learning and instruction, we help our youth to gain confidence in navigating the world around them and the tasks necessary to become independent young adults.
LEGAL
It is common for foster kids, aged-out young adults, and other children considered “at-risk” to be more likely to become entangled in legal issues. We assist our youth in cleaning up any past legal issues and how to best move forward.
Reginald Roundtree worked for the CBS affiliate more than 20 years, most recently as the night news anchor. He previously worked as a Miami police officer and got his first TV job at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach. He was born in Daytona Beach and raised in New York and Miami. Reginald uses his many relationships, talents, and voice-over skills to help document the events and successes of the foundation. Not only does he make friends of everyone he meets, but Reginald also establishes trust and brings out the best in everyone he comes in contact with. We are honored to have him on our board.
Cindy Tilley
President and Founder
I grew up in the foster care setting. I know how hard it can be, and how easy it is to lose your way. I started this nonprofit for kids who have aged out of foster care. Some of the kids come from rough homes, or simply need a helping hand. I strive to give these special individuals a place to feel like they belong, and to help them find their way.
This nonprofit will be an incredible opportunity for those we serve and those touched by the opportunity to reach others. We are here for all whom want to be a part of something positive and life changing. Together we are walking hand in hand through adolescents and beyond to set the course for a brighter future.
David Tyler
Executive Director
One of the best days of my life was the day I learned how much of a blessing our children are to us. “The Art of Working With Children” was the very first class I took in college. I had the privilege and honor to work with 25-30 special needs children. Little did I know when choosing the class, that they would bless me beyond words from the very first day to the last. It sent me down the pathway to working with children for life. Countless hours of psychology classes, hundreds of events supporting children, becoming a volunteer Guardian ad Litem has got me to where I am today. Every bit as passionate about helping people as I ever have been.
